Q&A With John Shuman

Q: If elected, how would you involve the public in making major decisions?

A: It's important the public have an opportunity to express their opinions and share their experiences. In making major decisions, a community must come together, collaborate, and then take transparent action to ensure everyone understands what's being done. I will be available for the community to contact me and/or set up face-to-face meeting times to discuss major decisions. I believe community surveys are an important tool to help understand the community's position. I welcome remarks, questions, and discussions at City Council Meetings. Leveraging social media, local media, public forum bulletin boards, etc. can be powerful tools to collaborate with the community as a whole.

Q: What can the City Council do in the next five years to help the city prosper?

A: I believe the City Council plays an important role in keeping North Oaks a safe place to live and raise a family. A safe community with healthy natural resources and a welcoming feel will ensure property values remain strong, and taxes & insurance rates remain stable, which I believe will lead to long-term prosperity. It's important the infrastructure and community offerings in North Oaks evolve as the times do. I feel the City Council should spend the next five years concentrating on the safety and security of North Oaks, the health of our natural resources, and initiatives to ensure North Oaks remains a welcoming place for all future residents.

Q: What are your top three priorities for the city?

A: Safety & Security - I believe it's important to keep our community safe from crime as well as natural disasters.

Safeguarding Our Natural Resources - I believe the health of our lakes, trails, and forest areas is critical to our community's long-term well-being.

Ensuring North Oaks Remains a Welcoming Community - Working together to ensure North Oaks continues to be a family-friendly, welcoming community that future residents are excited to become a part of.
